SMD Foundation/Easter Seals™ Manitoba

SMD Foundation is the fundraising member of the SMD family, working to raise two equally important things: funds and awareness. As the official provincial affiliate for Easter Seals™ Canada, SMD Foundation raises funds and awareness through activities conducted under the Easter Seals™ Manitoba banner.

Easter Seals™ has deep roots within the province, planted back in 1949 when the first Canadian campaign was introduced.

The campaign began in the spring because the symbolism of life and new beginnings echoed the newfound feelings, independence and abilities children with disabilities discovered through the programs and services funded by Easter Seals™. Today, the funding focus has grown to include adults with disabilities as well.

The SMD programs and services funded through Easter Seals™ Manitoba provide opportunities for people with disabilities to further their education, build successful careers, develop their life skills, explore recreational activities and create connections with professionals and equipment that can improve their overall quality of life. They strengthen the abilities people have, enable them to develop new ones and encourage them to use all their abilities to live their lives to the fullest. They promote participation, independence and personal empowerment.

Fundraising is essential to maintaining, expanding and improving the SMD programs and services so many Manitobans living with disabilities depend on. Awareness is vital in promoting a greater understanding of disabilities, which gives people a compelling reason to give.

Everyone knows someone with a disability. It may be a friend, a neighbour or a member of the family. It may be someone with a physical disability that they’ve had since birth or that is the result of an injury. It may be someone with an invisible disability such as Deafness or a chronic condition. It may be someone very young or an older person who has developed an age-related disability. No matter what a person's age or disability might be, Easter Seals™ Manitoba is there, supporting the programs and services that support others.

SMD Foundation/Easter Seals™ Manitoba isn’t about disabilities. It’s about people…and about the abilities each person adds to the community, making it a better place to live.
