Vocational Assessment Program
Employment Preparation Centre
The Employment Preparation Centre (EPC) is a comprehensive vocational program offered at the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities (SMD). The EPC has operated since 1957. Primary functions and responsibilities of the program include:
- Providing vocational evaluation, community-based work experience and employment placement services
- Assisting with the establishment of career goals that match an individual’s interests, abilities, aptitudes and physical abilities
- Providing information related to the current job market
- Assisting people to make informed choices about education and employment
- Exploring job accommodation and technical aids, such as ergonomic seating
- Providing on-the-job training and follow-up services based on each individual’s needs
Vocational Assessment Program
Provides participants answers to questions developed in individual assessment plans which may include:
- Interests
- Academics
- Aptitudes
- Transferable skills
- Work habits
- Tolerance levels
Provides participants with the opportunity to explore labour market demands and ability to enter or re-enter the competitive job market by:
Developing appropriate career goals
Exploring potential further education/training
Determining job accommodation/technical device needs
Assessment Options
Basic Assessment
Suited for: Individuals with a recent work history who wish to explore their potential for a predetermined, specific vocational goal
Testing administered: Aptitude and Academics
Duration: One full day
Intermediate Assessment
Suited for:
Individuals with a recent work history who seek to develop realistic vocational interests
Testing administered:
Interests, Aptitudes and Academics
Career exploration
Labour market research
Transferable skills
Duration
One week, half days
Panel 5
Comprehensive Assessment
Suited for:
Individuals with a limited or outdated work history who wish to explore their readiness for employment
Testing administered:
Interests, Aptitudes and Academics, job samples
Career exploration
Labour market research
Transferable skills
An individual’s physical and/or cognitive stamina will also be assessed
Duration:
Three weeks, half days
