In 2010, our organization developed a partnership with the Winnipeg Convention Centre and thier Annual Mardi Gras event. The Convention Centre shared the proceeds from ticket sales with SMD Foundation/Easter Seals Manitoba along with a number of other charitable organizations in our province. We look forward to participating in Mardi Gras 2011!

In the Spring of 2010, twelve Manitobans moved into the dance spotlight and changed the way that our community views ability. Ilana Hechter, a former volunteer at SMD, joined our organization’s fundraising efforts to create an all abilities dance experience. Ilana’s love for dance and her commitment to community resulted in a spectacular experience for this group of SMD consumers. An inspiring example of how one person’s fundraising efforts changed the world.

The Sovereign Grand Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekah Assembly of Manitoba has a long history of support for SMD Foundation/Easter Seals Manitoba.

Wake up and Touch the World! This past April, a group of Maples Collegiate students turned their focus to the community around them. Their ‘Wake up and Touch the World’ campaign raised funds and awareness for SMD Foundation Easter Seals Manitoba. Participation in the event required each student to meet a fundraising goal and commit to staying awake for 24 hours! The students gathered on a Friday after school and stayed in school through the night participating in a schedule of activities.

In the autumn of 2009, Joanne Cohoe celebrated a very special birthday. Special, not because of her age, nor any ‘milestone’ ...special, because in lieu of gifts Joanne asked her guests to make a small donation in support of our organization. The funds raised that night are being used to strengthen SMD’s Employment Preparation Centre by providing new technology to allow consumers to build interview and presentation skills. A very special birthday indeed.

Our organization also thanks the following groups and individuals for supporting our organization through their own fundraising initiatives; MPI Broker Support Unit - Office Casual Days, Magellan Vacations - Payroll Deductions.
