Barrier-Free Manitoba responds to Opening Doors

October 8, 2009

Barrier-Free Manitoba, the driving force behind Manitoba's impending disability legislation, has released an official response to the province's Opening Doors report.

Free Access for All calls for the government to introduce strong and effective accessibility-rights legislation during ht enext legislative season. Barrier-Free says Opening Doors only refers to human rights and accessibility rights legislation in one of the document's 10 sections, giving the impression that government conceives of human and accessibility rights as a separate problem from others to do with disability and access.

In its response, Barrier-Free addresses each of Opening Doors' objectives and provides recommendations, requests and other information.
