Volunteer - Adult Leisure & Recreation - Bowling Program

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1.      Provide assistance to supervisor, and support and verbal encouragement to consumers who participate in adult leisure and recreation programs.  Support and verbal encouragement may include physically pushing/maneuvering manual wheelchairs during an activity, assisting consumers to participate in activities, using voice or ASL to motivate consumers to participate, and keeping consumer on track with activity.

 

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1.      Establish a respectful relationship with consumers.

2.      Assist consumers to engage in cooperative group activities.

3.      Adhere to and comply with privacy legislation and all other policies and procedures of governing bodies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience and knowledge of working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Good leadership and communication skills with sensitivity and empathy to diversity.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of ASL, Deaf culture and French an asset.
