Donor Rights

Today, many people who want to give to an organization feel intimidated by the possibility of being added to a mailing list or of their personal information being shared with other organizations.

SMD Foundation/Easter Seals™ Manitoba respects the decisions of consumers and does not share its mailing lists with other organizations. SMD is also a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, offering the peace of mind that comes from knowing that SMD Foundation/Easter Seals™ Manitoba follow a strict set of standards that recognize the following donor rights:

  • To be informed of SMD Foundation/Easter Seals™ Manitoba's mission, of the way we intend to use donated resources, and of our capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  • To be informed of the identity of those serving on the Foundation's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  • To have access to the Foundation's Annual Report.
  • To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  • To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  • To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  • To expect that all relationships with individuals representing SMD Foundation/Easter Seals™ Manitoba to the donor will be professional in nature.
  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  • To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
